The City of Courtland, MN
Courtland, MN - Some History...
-1855 - First settlers were Jacob Harmon, Mr. Haresine, John Sidel, Jacob Gfeller, and Ole Nelson.  
Most of the early settlers came from Germany.
-1856 - Village of Red Stone, near the ferry, was surveyed but never developed.
-1856 - Hilo post office established in home of Wm. Duprey - Appointed postmaster.
-1858 - Township and village surveyed - 7 years later was renamed Courtland.
-1859 - Lutheran church was organized.
-1862 - 9 people were murdered in the Sioux Uprising.
-1882 - There were three general stores - harness shop - wagon shop - hotel and grain elevator.
